What Does a

First Scan Involve?

If this is your first pregnancy, then it’s likely this will be your first ultrasound too – and expecting a baby is daunting enough without fretting about scans. But there’s nothing to worry about. Opting for an early dating scan won’t cause you – or baby – any discomfort. A special ultrasound gel will be spread across your abdomen. We’ll then use an ultrasound probe to gently press down on your tummy for images. The whole thing usually takes less than 10 minutes and is carried out by one of our highly experienced,fully qualified, CASE accredited UK trained obstetric sonographers who are currently working in the NHS scanning pregnant ladies. Don’t worry if you’re a little earlier than you thought – we offer a free rescan 2 weeks later at no extra charge!

You can book as early as 6 weeks into your pregnancy.

We check the baby’s location, confirm single or multiple pregnancy, and estimate how far along you are.

Yes! We have no guest limit and welcome all ages into the scan room.

No problem – we offer a free rescan two weeks later at no extra cost.

Yes please drink 1 and a half pints of cold water an hour before your scan if you are under 16 weeks. A comfortably full bladder can improve image quality in early scans.

Ultrasound cant rule out an ectopic pregnancy, however we can detect if there is a pregnancy within the uterus if our sonographers notice anything concerning they will refer you to the Early Pregnancy Unit.

It Was A Lovely Experience From Start To Finish

We Cannot Recommend This Place Enough!!

We have been for 3 scans throughout our pregnancy at Instascan and we cannot recommend this place enough!!! Richard and Vicky are amazing, they always make you feel welcome, give you the best advice and always try there best at every scan to get the best photos for you!
